Libyans

Also known as Libyan

Libyans refers to the inhabitants of Libya and, in antiquity, to the indigenous Berber-speaking peoples of North Africa. In the Punic Empire, Libyan subjects were heavily taxed and supplied soldiers to Carthaginian armies, and their discontent fed revolts such as the Mercenary War. Under the Italian Empire, Libyans faced colonial settlement and harsh repression.
