Mercenary War

241–238 BCE · 3rd century BCE

The Mercenary War was a revolt by Carthage's unpaid mercenary army and its Libyan subjects from 241 to 238 BCE, following the First Punic War. The rebellion threatened Carthage itself before it was crushed by Hamilcar Barca. Rome used the crisis to seize Sardinia, weakening the Punic Empire.
