Liepāja
Liepāja, German Libau, is a port city on the Baltic coast of western Latvia. Long a town of the Duchy of Courland, it passed to Russia in 1795 and grew into an important ice-free port and naval base with heavy emigrant traffic. In 1919 it briefly served as the seat of the Latvian national government. It is Latvia's third-largest city.
