L'Île-Rousse

L'Île-Rousse is a port town on the north-west coast of Corsica, in the Balagne region. Pasquale Paoli founded it in 1758 as a harbour for the Corsican Republic, to end its dependence on Genoese-held ports such as Calvi. It takes its name from the red granite islets that shelter the harbour, and it later became a ferry port and seaside resort.
