Little Ice Age

c. 1300–1850 · 14th century

The Little Ice Age was a period of cooler climate, especially in the Northern Hemisphere, between roughly the 14th and mid-19th centuries, with particularly cold phases in the 17th century. Advancing glaciers, shorter growing seasons and harvest failures contributed to famine, epidemics and unrest, and historians link it to the general crisis of the 17th century, including the fall of the Ming dynasty in China.
