Liutgard of Saxony
Liutgard of Saxony was a daughter of Count Liudolf, founder of the Liudolfing dynasty, and his wife Oda, who founded the convent of Gandersheim. In the 870s she married the Carolingian king Louis the Younger of East Francia, a match that showed the rising standing of her family. Her brother Otto the Illustrious led the Saxons after 880, and his son Henry the Fowler became king in 919.
