The Ottonian dynasty, also called the Liudolfings, was a Saxon family that ruled East Francia, later Germany, from 919 to 1024. Henry the Fowler was the first king, and his son Otto I defeated the Magyars at the Lechfeld in 955 and was crowned emperor in 962. Otto II, Otto III and Henry II followed.
