Magyars
The Magyars are the Hungarian people, who settled the Carpathian Basin in the late ninth century. Their raids troubled Germany and Italy until Otto I defeated them at the Battle of Lechfeld in 955. The victory enhanced Otto's prestige and preceded his imperial coronation in 962, the conventional start of the Holy Roman Empire.
