Liutprand of Cremona

c. 920–972 · 10th century

Liutprand of Cremona was a Lombard historian, diplomat and bishop of Cremona from 961. After serving King Berengar II of Italy he joined Otto I, who sent him on embassies to Constantinople. His Antapodosis is a lively chief source for the history of Italy, Burgundy and Byzantium in the early tenth century, and his account of his embassy of 968 gives a famously hostile picture of the Byzantine court.
