Long Diet (Switzerland)

1814–1815 · 19th century

The Long Diet was the assembly of the Swiss cantons that sat in Zurich from April 1814 to August 1815, after the fall of the Napoleonic order. Its long negotiations produced the Federal Treaty, sworn on 7 August 1815, which bound twenty-two cantons, including the newly admitted Valais, Neuchâtel and Geneva, in a loose confederation recognised by the Congress of Vienna.
