Federal Treaty

1815 · 19th century · Also known as Bundesvertrag

The Federal Treaty was the constitution of the Swiss Confederation from 1815 to 1848, sworn on 7 August 1815 after the fall of Napoleon. It bound twenty-two sovereign cantons, including the newly admitted Geneva, Valais and Neuchâtel, in a loose alliance with a common Diet and army. It was replaced by the federal constitution of 1848 after the Sonderbund War.
