Federal War

1859–1863 · 19th century · Also known as Long War (Venezuela), Five Years' War

The Federal War was a civil war in Venezuela from 1859 to 1863 between the Conservatives and the Liberals, who demanded a federal system. Federalist leaders such as Ezequiel Zamora and Juan Crisóstomo Falcón fought a largely guerrilla war in which many thousands died. It ended with the Treaty of Coche in 1863 and a federal constitution in 1864.
