Battle of Leipzig
The Battle of Leipzig, or Battle of the Nations, was fought on 16–19 October 1813 around Leipzig in Saxony. The armies of Russia, Prussia, Austria and Sweden defeated Napoleon in a battle involving some 600,000 soldiers, and his German allies began to desert him. It was the largest battle in Europe before the First World War, ended French power east of the Rhine and led to the invasion of France in 1814.
