Lorvão Monastery
The Monastery of Lorvão is a former monastery near Penacova, north-east of Coimbra in Portugal, one of the oldest in the country, with origins before the 10th century. A wealthy house of the Mozarabic frontier under the counts of Coimbra, it became a convent of Cistercian nuns in the early 13th century. Its scriptorium produced the Apocalypse of Lorvão of 1189, an illuminated copy of the Beatus commentary.
