Douro
The Douro is one of the major rivers of the Iberian Peninsula, flowing about 897 km from the Sierra de Urbión in Soria westwards across northern Spain and Portugal to the Atlantic at Porto. In antiquity its basin was home to peoples such as the Vaccaei, Arevaci, Vettones and Callaeci, and in the early Middle Ages it marked the frontier zone between the Christian north and al-Andalus. Its Portuguese valley is famous for port wine.
