Asturia
Asturia was the Roman name for the lands of the Astures in north-western Hispania, covering modern Asturias, the province of León and neighbouring areas. Conquered in Augustus' Cantabrian Wars of 29–19 BCE, it was soon attached to the province of Hispania Tarraconensis, with its centre at Asturica Augusta (Astorga). Its gold mines, such as Las Médulas, made it a major source of imperial wealth.
