Lower Silesia
Lower Silesia is the north-western part of the historical region of Silesia, along the middle Oder, with Wrocław as its main city. Ruled by Piast dukes and then by Bohemia and the Habsburgs, it was taken by Prussia in 1742 and remained German until 1945. Most of it now forms the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of Poland, with a small part around Görlitz in Saxony.
