Lucrezia Borgia

1480–1519 · 16th century

Lucrezia Borgia was the daughter of Pope Alexander VI and sister of Cesare Borgia. Her first marriage, to Giovanni Sforza, lord of Pesaro, was annulled in 1497, and her second husband, Alfonso of Aragon, was murdered in 1500. In 1502 she married Alfonso I d'Este, later Duke of Ferrara, where she presided over a court of poets and artists and was regent during his absences.
