Alessandro Sforza

1409–1473 · 15th century

Alessandro Sforza was a condottiero and the younger brother of Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. In 1445 he bought Pesaro from Galeazzo Malatesta, whose granddaughter Costanza da Varano he had married, and he ruled it as papal vicar until his death. He made Pesaro a cultivated Renaissance court, and his descendants held the lordship until 1512.
