Aleuadae

Also known as Aleuads

The Aleuadae were an aristocratic family of Larissa in Thessaly, claiming descent from Heracles through their ancestor Aleuas. They often led the Thessalian League in the Archaic and Classical periods. The Aleuad Thorax and his brothers supported the Persian king Xerxes in 480 BCE, and in the 4th century BCE the family invited Philip II of Macedon to help them against the tyrants of Pherae.
