Pineios (Thessaly)

Also known as Peneus

The Pineios, ancient Peneus, is the main river of Thessaly in Greece, about 200 kilometres long. Rising in the Pindus mountains, it crosses the Thessalian plain past Trikala and Larissa and reaches the Aegean through the Vale of Tempe between Mount Olympus and Mount Ossa. Its plain was the agricultural heart of ancient Thessaly.
