Thessaly
Thessaly is a region of central Greece, a broad fertile plain ringed by mountains, including Olympus and Pelion. In antiquity it was famed for its horses and cavalry, and its cities, among them Larissa and Pherae, formed the Thessalian League. It later passed through Byzantine, Serbian and Ottoman rule and joined the Greek kingdom in 1881.
