Malatesta family

1295–1528 · 13th century · Also known as House of Malatesta

The Malatesta were an Italian noble family who ruled Rimini from 1295 and at times Pesaro, Fano, Cesena and other towns of Romagna and the Marche as lords and papal vicars. Their best-known members include Malatesta da Verucchio and Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, patron of the Tempio Malatestiano. Papal pressure and Venetian rivalry ended their rule in the early 16th century.
