Fano

Also known as Fanum Fortunae

Fano is a coastal town in the Marche, central Italy, on the Adriatic at the end of the Via Flaminia. Founded as the Roman colony of Fanum Fortunae, it keeps an Arch of Augustus. In 271 the emperor Aurelian defeated invading Juthungi nearby, and in the late Middle Ages the town was ruled by the Malatesta before passing to the Papal States in 1463.
