Luitpoldings
The Luitpoldings were a Bavarian noble dynasty that ruled the Duchy of Bavaria in the late ninth and tenth centuries. Its founder, Margrave Luitpold, fell fighting the Magyars at Pressburg in 907, and his son Arnulf made Bavaria a powerful stem duchy within East Francia. After 947 the Ottonian kings gave the duchy to their own relatives, though a Luitpolding held it again briefly in the 980s.
