Luxembourgers

Luxembourgers are the people and citizens of Luxembourg, a small nation whose national identity developed after the grand duchy became independent in the nineteenth century. Their national language is Luxembourgish, used alongside French and German, and their motto, 'We want to remain what we are', expresses resistance to absorption by larger neighbours, notably during the German occupation of 1940–1944. Nearly half of the country's residents today are foreign nationals.
