Magdalena River

The Magdalena is the principal river of Colombia, flowing about 1,500 km north between the Central and Eastern Cordilleras to the Caribbean near Barranquilla. Spanish expeditions, including that of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada in 1536, used it to reach the Andean interior and the lands of the Muisca. For centuries it was the main route between the Caribbean coast and Bogotá.
