Santa Marta
Santa Marta is a port city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, founded by Rodrigo de Bastidas in 1525 and one of the oldest Spanish towns in South America. It served as a base for the conquest of the interior. Simón Bolívar died at the estate of San Pedro Alejandrino outside the city on 17 December 1830, as Gran Colombia was breaking apart.
