Mahajirstvo
The Mahajirstvo is the name given to the mass emigration and deportation of Muslim peoples of the north-western Caucasus, including the Abkhaz and Circassians, to the Ottoman Empire after the Russian conquest. In Abkhazia it followed the abolition of the principality in 1864 and the revolts of 1866 and 1877, and it greatly reduced the Abkhaz population, leaving large districts empty.
