Makua
The Makua are a Bantu people of northern Mozambique and southern Tanzania, the largest ethnic group of Mozambique. Organised in many chiefdoms in the interior, they traded and fought with the Swahili coastal sultanates such as Angoche, and were drawn into the ivory and slave trades of the 19th century. They resisted Portuguese conquest until the early 20th century.
