Mankessim
Mankessim is a town in the Central Region of Ghana, regarded in tradition as the place where the Fante people settled after migrating to the coast and the seat of their early rulers. Its sacred grove, Nananom Mpow, was an important shrine. In 1868 Fante kings and educated leaders met at Mankessim to form the Fante Confederacy, which adopted a written constitution there in 1871.
