Mannar
Mannar is a town on Mannar Island off the north-west coast of Sri Lanka, linked to the mainland by a causeway. It lies at the start of Adam's Bridge, the chain of shoals towards India, and the nearby ancient port of Mantai was a major centre of trade in the first millennium CE. The surrounding Gulf of Mannar was long famous for its pearl fisheries.
