Maqsud Shah
Maqsud Shah was the last khan of Kumul (Hami) in eastern Xinjiang, ruling from 1882 under Qing and then Chinese republican overlordship. After his death in 1930 the Xinjiang governor Jin Shuren abolished the khanate and imposed direct rule and new taxes, provoking the Kumul rebellion of 1931 that began years of war in Xinjiang.
