Marcus Lollius

d. 2 CE · 1st century BCE

Marcus Lollius was a Roman politician and general, consul in 21 BCE and a close associate of Augustus. In 16 BCE, as governor in Gaul, he was defeated by the Sugambri, Usipetes and Tencteri, who captured the eagle of the Fifth Legion, a disaster known as the clades Lolliana. He later advised Augustus's grandson Gaius Caesar in the East.
