Mariamne I

d. 29 BCE · 1st century BCE

Mariamne I was a Hasmonean princess, granddaughter of both Aristobulus II and Hyrcanus II, and the second wife of Herod the Great, whose claim to rule she strengthened. Suspicious of her and her family, Herod had her executed in 29 BCE, and later also had their sons Alexander and Aristobulus put to death.
