Herodium
Herodium is a fortified palace built by Herod the Great on an artificially heightened, cone-shaped hill south of Bethlehem, in the West Bank. Herod chose it as his burial place, and in 2007 archaeologists led by Ehud Netzer identified what they believed to be his tomb on its slopes. Jewish rebels held it in the revolts against Rome of 66–73 and 132–135.
