Bethlehem
Bethlehem is a Palestinian city in the West Bank, about 10 kilometres south of Jerusalem. In the Bible it is the home of David's family, and Christian tradition holds it to be the birthplace of Jesus, marked by the Church of the Nativity, first built under Constantine the Great. Frederick II obtained it by treaty from the Ayyubid sultan al-Kamil in 1229.
