Massufa
The Massufa were a Sanhaja Berber tribe of the western Sahara, closely related to the Lamtuna and among the early supporters of the Almoravid movement in the 11th century. They controlled much of the caravan traffic across the desert, including the salt mines of Taghaza and the route to Walata. The 14th-century traveller Ibn Battuta crossed the Sahara with Massufa guides and described their customs.
