Camel
The camel is a large hoofed mammal adapted to arid environments, used for transport, milk, meat and warfare. The dromedary made long-distance caravan trade across the Sahara possible, supporting the Ghana and Almoravid empires, and was vital to Arab armies of the Rashidun Caliphate. Bactrian camels served as pack animals for steppe powers such as the Xiongnu and Mongol empires.
