Camden, South Carolina
Camden is a town in Kershaw County, South Carolina, on the Wateree River, and one of the oldest inland towns in the state, settled in the 1730s. During the American Revolutionary War the British defeated an American army under Horatio Gates near the town in August 1780. The nearby Mulberry mound site is thought to have been the main centre of the Mississippian chiefdom of Cofitachequi.
