American Revolutionary War
The American Revolutionary War was fought between Britain and its rebel colonies in North America, which declared independence as the United States in 1776. France, Spain and the Dutch Republic joined against Britain, and German states such as Hesse-Kassel and Ansbach hired out soldiers to the British. The Treaty of Paris of 1783 recognised American independence.
