Battles of Lexington and Concord

19 April 1775 · 1st century · Part of the American Revolutionary War

The Battles of Lexington and Concord, fought on 19 April 1775 in Massachusetts, were the first military engagements of the American Revolutionary War. British troops sent by General Thomas Gage to seize militia stores at Concord exchanged fire with colonists at Lexington and at Concord's North Bridge, and were harried by militia all the way back to Boston. The clash turned the colonial dispute into open war.
