Matanzas
Matanzas is a port city on the northern coast of Cuba, east of Havana, founded by the Spanish in 1693. Its bay was the scene of a celebrated Dutch triumph in September 1628, when Piet Heyn of the Dutch West India Company trapped the Spanish treasure fleet there and seized its cargo of silver and goods. The city later grew rich on sugar in the nineteenth century.
