Maxixcatzin

d. 1520 · 16th century

Maxixcatzin was the ruler of Ocotelolco, the most powerful of the four altepetl that made up the Nahua state of Tlaxcala, at the time of the Spanish arrival. After the Tlaxcalans fought Cortés in 1519, he argued for alliance with the Spanish and supported them after their flight from Tenochtitlan in 1520, but he died of smallpox later that year.
