Mendip Hills
The Mendip Hills are a range of limestone hills in Somerset, England, south of Bristol. Their lead and silver deposits were mined by the Romans within a few years of the conquest of 43 CE, with lead pigs stamped as early as 49 CE. Mining continued into the 20th century. The hills also contain Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole caves.
