Merovingian dynasty

Also known as Merovingian

The Merovingian dynasty was the first royal house of the Franks, ruling from the fifth century until 751. Its founder Clovis I united much of Gaul and converted to Christianity. In its later period real power passed to the mayors of the palace, and Pepin the Short deposed the last Merovingian king, founding the Carolingian dynasty.
