Mihranid dynasty

7th–9th century · 7th century · Also known as Mihranids

The Mihranid dynasty was a princely family of Persian origin that ruled Caucasian Albania from the early seventh century until the early ninth. Claiming descent from the Sasanian noble house of Mihran, its princes, above all Javanshir, balanced between Persia, Byzantium, the Khazars and the Arab caliphate. Under them the Albanian church flourished and missions were sent to the Huns of the north Caucasus.
