Milan Kundera
Milan Kundera was a Czech-born novelist whose first novel, The Joke of 1967, satirised life under communism. After the Prague Spring his books were banned, and he emigrated to France in 1975, later writing in French. His novels The Book of Laughter and Forgetting and The Unbearable Lightness of Being made him one of the best-known European writers of his time.
