Minnesänger

12th–14th century · 12th century · Also known as Minnesinger

The Minnesänger were the German lyric poets of the twelfth to fourteenth centuries who composed Minnesang, songs of courtly love modelled partly on the troubadours and trouvères. Leading figures included Heinrich von Morungen, Reinmar, Walther von der Vogelweide and Wolfram von Eschenbach. Much of their work survives in the Codex Manesse, compiled in Zürich in the early fourteenth century.
