Mont-Saint-Michel

Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island off the coast of Normandy, near the border with Brittany, crowned by a Benedictine abbey dedicated to the Archangel Michael. A sanctuary was founded there in 708 and a Benedictine community in 966 under the dukes of Normandy. Its fortified abbey resisted English sieges during the Hundred Years' War, and the site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
